Distribution:- New Guinea and nearby islands (Bismarck Islands, Trobriand Islands, D'Entrecasteaux Islands, Louisiade Islands, Aru Islands, Kai Islands). It is NOT found in Australia. Australian specimens previously regarded as a subspecies are Simalia kinghorni

Comments:-This species belongs to the Amethystine python complex comprising of 5 separate species. It grows up to approximately 7 metres (6ft) - some sources report lengths up to 3 metres (10ft)
